Session Trainer: Amy Baillie
Amy has experience delivering Professional Development to schools and child related organisations across Victoria. She has worked with multiple organisations delivering PD including having delivered sessions for Independent Schools Victoria.
Overview:
Data now states some alarming statistics with 1 in 7 children between the age of 4-17 having a diagnosable mental health issue and 14% of people with ongoing mental health problems that began in childhood. These statistics cry-out for childhood mental health to be an important topic to start a conversation about.
Join The Play Therapy Project as we invite you to reflect on your understanding of childhood mental health and its relevance to your organisation and practice. In this session we will consider what the current thoughts and beliefs are in our community around childhood mental health, set a few myths straight by exploring cutting edge brain research and knowledge on the topic and look at some of the responses organisations can have when identifying mental health challenges in children focusing on birth to age 12.
Outcomes:
- Dispel myths held around childhood mental health
- Increase knowledge of the facts on childhood mental health and how to identify the signs and symptoms
- Learn strategies for supporting positive mental health of children
- Learn about the options that are out there when assisting families with referral to mental health professionals, including Play Therapy
